What are 2022’s Hot Colors for Home Decorating?

Leading color experts have revealed their Colors of the Year for 2022. Some designers are recommending neutrals for post-pandemic calming; others are going vivid to portray optimism:

  • Dulux’s Bright Skies is a lighthearted blue
  • Benjamin Moore chose a tender shade of sage
  • Farrow and Ball predicts a buoyant rainbow from spicy yellow to a bubbly Breakfast Room Green

Babouche Says “Back to Normal”

In 2022, some interior designers are signaling a joyous return to normal. The happy Babouche is a bold, but never gaudy yellow named after leather slippers worn by Morocco men. It works well in large rooms and would go well with a pale blue or soft red.

School House White Evokes Comfort

This off-white color looks white in a shaded area. It is muted, timeless and familiar, evoking the nostalgia of old schoolhouses. Ideal for a background with a large-scale artwork or vibrant rugs, you can’t go wrong with this color.

Bright Skies is Safe and Hopeful

This fresh shade breathes new life into any room. It can be a game-changer on ceilings, making them melt. This color is uplifting and light, while also being soothing, familiar, and right for a safe haven. This selection was influenced by the aftermath of the pandemic, with many people craving freedom, expansion and nature.

Breakfast Room Green Brings Cheer

This color is named after east-facing rooms made for lazy mornings. It reflects the natural world we’ve retreated to during the pandemic, and pairs will with Stone Blue.

Incarnadine is Warm

Combining traditional red with the spirit of the Mediterranean, this shade pairs brilliantly with warm woodwork and rustic golds.

For a contemporary feel, combine it with a monochrome palette, or forest greens/inky blues.

Start Your Earthly Palette with October Mist

A soft gray-green, this color makes a great foundation for an earthy palette. Like Breakfast Room Green, it encourages reconnecting with the natural world.

October Mist works in a farmhouse setting with soft, nature-inspired tones like pale sky blues, scorched earth reds or chalky whites.

Stone Blue is Vintage

Named after the pigment frequently imported during the 18th century, this warm blue communicates folk craftsmanship. It can be used with other genial hues for an inviting look.
